Here's a vintage parrot tagua carving from the early 1990's. It is a scarf sleeve.
The white color of the carving is the natural color of tagua. That is why it is called vegetable ivory. It is a nut and fully renewable. It grows on the tagua palm.
I have bought tagua from South American, Africa and the South Pacific. But the very best carvers are in panama.
This style was popular at one time. Boy Scouts liked them for their neckerchiefs.
Tagua carvings are all one-of-a-kind treasures.
