Some baskets are worth holding on to, like this Peekaboo Purse basket in cream and brown stripes with a strap, a vintage piece hand woven in Panama. Its natural cream body is circled by thin brown stripes, and a braided cream and brown strap rises above it. A woven lid closes it. It makes a thoughtful gift for collectors of handmade art and anyone who loves the rainforest. Keep small treasures inside, or let it stand on a shelf or table as a piece of art.

From Jan at MolaMagic: This basket makes a lovely and unusual shoulder purse. It is beautifully woven with a sturdy strap, and the top slides up and down along the strap and closes with a button style clasp.

Baskets like this one are woven by Wounaan and Emberá women in the Darién rainforest of Panama, a skill handed down from mothers and grandmothers to daughters. Fine strands of chunga palm, colored with natural dyes from rainforest plants and earth, are coiled tightly around a core of naguala fiber, stitch by stitch, from the center of the base up to the rim. Every basket is woven entirely by hand, so each one is truly one of a kind.

MolaMagic was founded by Janet Marie Brockman with a simple but powerful mission: to help indigenous artisans in Panama share their art with the world. All profits go right back into the artisan community, supporting education, medical care, land, tools, and daily needs. Buying a MolaMagic basket means you are part of that story too.
