Add a vintage piece of Panama's weaving tradition to your home with this Patchwork Peekaboo basket in cream, brown and gold blocks, hand woven from chunga palm. Its cream sides break into big blocks of dark brown, gold and cinnamon that show inside and out. It makes a thoughtful gift for collectors of handmade art and anyone who loves the rainforest. Keep small treasures inside, or let it stand on a shelf or table as a piece of art.

From Jan at MolaMagic: This is one of our vintage baskets, found long ago in Panama. Wounaan and Emberá people of the Darién region wove it entirely by hand, using palm fiber and natural dyes.

Baskets like this one are woven by Wounaan and Emberá women in the Darién rainforest of Panama, a skill handed down from mothers and grandmothers to daughters. Fine strands of chunga palm, colored with natural dyes from rainforest plants and earth, are coiled tightly around a core of naguala fiber, stitch by stitch, from the center of the base up to the rim. Every basket is woven entirely by hand, so each one is truly one of a kind.

MolaMagic was founded by Janet Marie Brockman with a simple but powerful mission: to help indigenous artisans in Panama share their art with the world. All profits go right back into the artisan community, supporting education, medical care, land, tools, and daily needs. Buying a MolaMagic basket means you are part of that story too.
