These tagua vase carvings are relatively new to the Panama tagua market. It is interesting how it developed. You see, the Wounaan tagua carvers are the husbands and brothers to the Wounaan basket artists. So what happened is the tagua carvers started carving out the vases and then making the etched design look very much like the designs their wives and sisters used on their baskets. It worked because the vases have become popular with collectors.
Now how about that blue frog? Pretty neat, don’t you think? Plus this carving is signed by Carpio, the artist.
Every tagua carving is a one-of-a-kind treasure.
