This woven Basket measures 5.5" tall and has a 20" circumference.
I bought this basket in the early 1990's and it looked old then. The design is unusual an extensive for a Wounaan or Embera basket. One feature worth mentioning is that this basket has a color we rarely see. It is the light green near the top. 99% of the dyes the basket artists use are natural. But once in a while they get really creative. The green comes from boiling the mosquito coils they burn to run the pests off.
I get this image of a basket weaver sitting there with her eye on this smoldering mosquito coil. She is thinking...I like that green color.
